ARTIST'S BIOGRAPHY: After completing her formal education with a B.A. degree at Ottawa University and later a MBA with South Illinois University, Teresa and her family moved to Vancouver in 1995. A change in her career path and family life-style led her to take up painting art courses at Langara College. She has studied under the guidance of Joseph Wong, AFCA, recently with Chris Charlebois, and attended other workshops in oil painting. Teresa is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, a member and a Special Projects Coordinator with the Richmond Artists Guild, and a member with the South Delta Artists Guild. Her artwork has been featured at the University Women's Club of Vancouver, Stanley Arts Club Theatre, the Longhouse Gallery, and the Federation Gallery in Granville Island.
In 2010 to celebrate the Winter Olympics, her artwork was selected at the Vancouver Outlook Armstrong Gallery and at Fete 2010 at Lansdowne Mall. In May, Teresa will join a group show for Doors Open for the City of Richmond. In July of the same year, she will appear at a group art exhibition at Gulf of Georgia Cannery entitled "Gulf of Georgia Cannery Past and Present". Then in September/October, she will show at a group exhibit at the Vancouver Maritime Museum entitled "Stories of West Coast Fishing".
ARTIST'S STATEMENT: Nature is full of awesome wonders and sometimes it's difficult to capture the lights and dark of a "moment" in time. Luckily photography is another passion of mine. These moments are where I draw my concepts and approaches to my painting. They are my moments, my memory to store and select from. I use these memories as my backbone and transfer them to my paintings on canvas. Once on canvas, the image has a life of its own. Let the painting speak to you but the artist must take control and direct its course from the first brush stroke to the last icing or highlights on the painting.
The West Coast landscape, the snow-capped mountains, our rivers and ocean, are constant inspirations in my artwork and these are mostly reflected in my artwork. As an artist, there are 3Cs that I consider to be important - the Composition, the Concept, and the Colour. I love to paint in oil due to its fluidness and viscosity and I try to paint everyday whenever I can find the time. To paint requires creativity and dedication. Once I start to paint, I'm in a different zone and my constant companion is usually the background music. Through my paintings, I hope to share with my viewers the same beauty that nature has so graciously offered me.
