Faces of the Fraser: Mike Armstrong.

Meet a Fraser River Pilot!

Event Details:

Date: Saturday, March 9, 2019
Time: 1:00 to 2:30 pm
Where: Fraser River Discovery Centre
Cost: Free with admission to the centre

Do you know that every ocean-going vessel that uses the Fraser River has to have a local marine pilot in command? And that there are only eight of them qualified to do that critical job?

Come and learn first hand about some of the challenges that are faced in using the mighty Fraser every day from Captain Mike Armstrong of the Canadian Marine Pilots Association. He will be talking about what it means to be a marine pilot – the roles and responsibilities – as well as the types of ships they work on and what makes it unique to travel up and down the Fraser River.

The session will include stories, pictures and interesting facts and figures. It will be followed by a Q&A session with light refreshments. Event attendance is free with admission to the centre, and payment can be made on the day but pre-registration is appreciated.
